Where does 'Ponsdale' originate?
From early in her childhood, my Mum spent all her holidays at the family beach house in Point Londsale in Victoria. As soon as my parents started a family, that tradition continued.
Located on the heads of Port Philip Bay about 1.5 hours' drive south of Melbourne, it has still retained some of its original character. There is still no pub and limited shopping.
From the earliest family holidays, 'Ponsdale' was always the family short-hand for Point Lonsdale. Its famous Lighthouse rising over a nearby hill was the first sign we were nearly there and holidays were about to begin.
Point Lonsdale represents the place that was both safe and treacherous at the same time. You can swim in the safety of the front bay beach, or the danger of the Bass Strait ocean back beach. You could enjoy idyllic summer days, or wild winter storms.
It provided the place where I felt confident and supported to take on the the risker option, and then enjoy the rewards.

A beachside holiday town deep in my heart

After choosing Ponsdale as the name for my business, I picked 7 key locations at Point Lonsdale that are very dear to my heart, and plotted them on a map, including the Lighthouse at the bottom right.
When joined together by lines, the patten started to resemble the Lighthouse.
With a few minor tweeks to give it a bit more depth and flipped so that it could sit next to the capital 'P', this abstract form became my personal lighthouse and logo.
